Luxembourgish Public Libraries’ Union (ULBP) / Union Luxembourgeoise des Bibliothèques Publiques (ULBP)
ULBP is composed by institutions and associations. The majority of public libraries (16) and 2 associations (ALBAD & FëBLux) are members. The ULBP president is always a politician, a member of Parliament. Their main goal is advocacy.
Librarians Association of Malaysia (PPM) / Persatuan Pustakawan Malaysia (PPM)
Librarians Association of Malaysia or better known as Persatuan Pustakawan Malaysia (PPM) was established in 1955. PPM is registered under the Societies Act 1966 (Act 335) and is governed by the Librarians Association of Malaysia Constitution (Amendment) 1998 (Incorporating all amendments up to 25th December 2020). PPM is the only professional body for the library and information services in Malaysia and is an institutional member of IFLA since 1968. PPM have greatly contributed to the development of libraries in Malaysia. As at 2022, PPM has 2,705 registered members comprising of 10 Honorary Life Members, 56 Life Members, 1,735 Professional Members, 4 Corresponding Members, 345 Student Members, 148 Institutional Members, 202 Allied Members and 126 Affiliate Members.
Namibia Information Workers Association (NIWA)
NIWA was formed in 1990 and strives to promote information services throughout Namibia. NIWA is open to all information workers and information institutions in Namibia. NIWA's objectives are:
- to unite all information workers in Namibia in an autonomous and representative body;
- to make and maintain contact with relevant international and national organizations;
- to raise the level of expertise of information workers by offering training seminars, workshop and other relevant activities;
- to advise academic institutions involved in training information workers in curriculum development.
Currently, NIWA have about 390 registered (paid up) members and 16 institutions as paid up members
Nepal Library Association (NLA) / नेपाल पुस्तकालय संघ (Nepal Pustakalaya Sangh)
The NLA is a non-profit non-governmental organization, established in 1980, with a mission to develop, promote and improve library and information services in Nepal. It has been persistently involved in the development of efficient library systems in the country ensuring ease of access, affordability, acceptability, quality, equity and equality of library services. NLA has as its motto: "Information is power and Learning is a never-ending process".
Some of the major activities of the NLA include professional development of librarians, dissemination of information through publications like directory, reports and newsletters, journals, other advocacy and professional empowerment activities. The NLA currently represents more than 550 professional members and in addition there are more than 1000 paraprofessionals.
Nepalese Association of School Librarians (NASL), Kathmandu / पुस्तकालय परिचारिका संगठन नेपाल (Pustakalaya Paricharika Sangathan)
The NASL is a registered non-government, not for profit, social organization with the mission of “One School, One Library”. Founded in 1996 as an ad-hoc committee, it was registered in 1997 with the mission of encouraging library requirement in every school towards the betterment of quality education throughout Nepal. NASL frequently conducts Teachers’ Training, Library Administration and Management Training, Information Literacy programmes, School Library Awareness Programs, and Seminars, Workshops and other important programs related to library and other educational issues. It also helps establish libraries in schools by providing logistic and material support. NASL currently have about 640 members.
Nepal Community Library Association (NCLA) / नेपाल सामुदायिक पुस्तकालय संघ
The Nepal Community Library Association connects 50 community and public libraries in different districts of Nepal. It is a nongovernmental autonomous organization, formed in 2005 with the aim of federating and strengthening community libraries scattered across the country. NCLA provides a common platform for promotion and advocacy of community libraries in Nepal. It also works to strengthen networking and coordination between community libraries as well as other organizations.
The Netherlands Public Library Association / Vereniging Openbare Bibliotheken, VOB
VOB consists of more than 160 members, a board, and a bureau. Together they work on the common interests of public libraries, the provincial support organizations (POIs) and the national organizations. The VOB unites the public libraries industry. The VOB is a branch association that acts responsibly, flexibly and demand driven as a stakeholder, contracting party, service provider, meeting place and employers’ organisation. Strengthening the social role of members is central so that everyone in society has access to good information and opportunities to develop themselves, at every level.
FOBID Netherlands Library Forum
FOBID was founded in 1974 to improve the co-operation between different types of libraries and institutions for information and documentation services. It is the branch organization for the Dutch library sector. It serves as a platform that represents the interests of the sector and acts as a point of contact for affiliated organizations in the Netherlands and sister organizations abroad.
Its aim is to defend the interests of these institutions and their professionals, and to enhance professional development. The main activities focus on advocacy of the library field's legal interests, on international networking and co-operation of professionals in the field of bibliographic matters and education.
The Royal Dutch Association of Information Professionals / Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging van Informatieprofessionals, KNVI
The KNVI is a Dutch professional association for professionals in information provision and management. KNVI is the platform for Professionals in Information Management, Information Technology and Information Services, where every professional in these disciplines feels at home. Information plays a leading role in the development of people and society. KNVI therefore sees it as their task to promote the development of information professionals, by working together, facilitating, meeting, focusing, and leading the way. In doing so, KNVI considers their core values of independence, integrity, and professionalism.
Korean Library Association (KLA) / 한국도서관협회
Korean Library Association, founded in 1945, is the national federation of Korean libraries. The mission of KLA is to develop library functions and facilities, promote the interactive exchange of materials, conduct research for libraries, advance interactive cooperation with relevant international associations, and improve the qualifications of library staff. KLA publishes materials related to library standardisation and publications in the library and information science area, including monthly Library Culture, yearly Korean Library Yearbook, Korean Decimal Classification, Korean Cataloguing Rules, Korean Library Standard, Library Manual, and Library Dictionary. KLA promotes projects such as the KLA Award and seeks to support advocacy for libraries and the profession.
Librarians’ Association of Moldova (LAM) / Asociatia Bibliotecarilor din Moldova
The Association is the only professional organization of librarians in Moldova, aiming to bring together librarians and community members to a form of association. Currently LAM has over 2,220 individual members, that represents 48% of Moldovan librarians. Major priorities are focused on strengthening the role of librarians and libraries in society; involvement of LAM in the innovation of the library domain; increasing institutional capacity of LAM; development of the LAM membership network; supporting professional development; strengthening advocacy. Main activities in the past 5 years were based on professional development, by launching 3 curricula and facilitating trainings.
Russian Library Association (RLA) / Rossijskaya bibliotechnaya assocziacziya (RBA)
Russian Library Association serves to bring together the most active members of the professional community who are in charge of expressing and defending the interests of libraries. Objectives: joint efforts; support and coordination of the activities of libraries, library associations and schools in order to preserve and develop Russian librarianship; representation and advocacy for the Russian library community; enhancing the prestige of libraries and the social status of librarians. It has more than 500 members, including associations, libraries and other institutions and organisations.
